Considering divorce?

Are you contemplating a divorce in Missouri?

Is your stomach in knots? Are you laying awake at night looking for answers? Unfortunately, Google cannot tell you whether or not you should get a divorce. That is a question only you can answer. And, it is one of the most difficult decisions you will ever face. Before you decide that divorce is the only answer, think carefully about what the process will be and what your life will realistically look like after a divorce is granted.

If you have children, it is likely that you and your spouse will both end up seeing your child or children less often than you did during your marriage. Financially, you will be dividing the same income and trying to support two separate households. There is a good chance you will not have the finances to live the same lifestyle separately, that you enjoyed together, which is why divorce is a major cause of poverty in the United States.

If you are miserable in your marriage, don’t assume that the misery will end when you have divorced your spouse. No one enjoys having less time with their kids. No one wants to have to move back in with their parents. However, these are commons occurrences in divorce. The fact that the divorce is your spouse’s fault does not insulate you from the practical consequences of separating a family. It is important to know exactly what you will be undertaking as you lie awake at night worry about this decision, because the misery often continues while the divorce is pending and sometimes thereafter.

No matter your decision, you are not alone. There are over 20,000 divorces in Missouri every year. Half of the marriage in the United States end in divorce. These people have lived through the process, for better or for worse, and you will too. Remember, this is a decision that only you can make. What will your life look like if your marriage continues and how does that compare to the pain of going through a divorce? Even if you don’t want to be here, here you are. I’m here too, to help you move on with your life. Contact me to take the next step forward.
